England’s Euro 2016 Squad Named – Hodgson Picks his 26 Man Squad

The England Euro 2016 squad has just been announced live from Wembley and Roy Hodgson has named a 26-man squad to go to the European Championships this summer.

 

The final squad doesn’t need to be named until 31st May but Hodgson has decided to name his squad early ahead of the upcoming friendly matches. England start their Euro 2016 campaign against Russia on Saturday 11th June. The main talking points of the squad are the inclusion of Andros Townsend after his good end to the season at Newcastle and the inclusion of Delph and Rashford, both are likely to drop out for the final 23.

The question on most people's lips has been answered with Wayne Rooney named in the squad es expected and there were rumours today that Hodgson aims to play Rooney on the right side of a three man attack or at the peak of a diamond in a 4-4-2 formation. He will face competition from Dele Alli and Ross Barkley for that position. 

 

Harry Kane is expected to lead the England line and Jamie Vardy is pushing for a start following his brilliant season with Leicester City. The midfield questions have been answered to an extent with Wilshere and Henderson with taking their place in the squad despite being injured recently.
