After everything that has already taken place down at the King Power Stadium in 2015/16, it should ultimately come as little surprise that this year’s illustrious ‘Player of the Season’ award would seemingly fall upon a Leicester City star when all is said and done.
Whilst each of Jamie Vardy, N’Golo Kante, Wes Morgan and Danny Drinkwater also deserve their fair share of praise from the wider footballing community this season, Riyad Mahrez has clearly served to represent the standout winner within the grand scheme of things. The quick-footed Algerian international has simply been in scintillating form across the current domestic campaign after all…
Yet as football fans in this country tend to prove a rather argumentative bunch even at the best of times, we’ve decided to take a closer look at what a wide range of Premier League watchers have had to say about Riyad Mahrez’ recent accolade, and whether or not the current Foxes favourite really represents a worthy player of the season with all things fairly taken into account.
Well, as most Premier League players, managers, pundits and fans have seemingly been mentioning the name ‘Riyad Mahrez’ throughout the vast portion of the 2015/16 campaign thus far…
I'm so happy for Mahrez, he truly deserves it. So impressive all season ? #POTY

…the 25-year-old attacker admittedly felt like a worthy winner of the ultimate award long before the official PFA selection process first got underway…
Can't find many arguments to justify Mahrez doesn't deserve the POTY. He's been outstanding all season.

On the back of everything the Leicester City star has achieved this term…
…it really wouldn’t be much of a surprise to witness one of Europe’s most elite clubs crop up in the hunt for his highly coveted signature across the upcoming summer transfer window…
Congratulations to mahrez see you at Barcelona soon ? @Mahrez22 @FCBarcelona

There are nonetheless those who would seemingly point towards Harry Kane as a more than worthy alternative for the award however…
Mahrez hasn't done anything 'PFA Player of the Year' worthy in 2 months. Harry Kane though…
— AJ (@Chazzli) 18 April 2016
…as well as several other well-established regulars who have also impressed among the English top-flight in 2015/16…
Dembele should have won player of the year, never mind that mahrez dude. He's been different class all season.

With all things fairly taken into account though, it seems as if Mahrez clearly warranted the praise from the get-go…
Mahrez ???
Class act, knew he was quality last season at the Emirates best player on the pitch.— Steve (@goonersteve12) 24 April 2016
…and whilst Jamie Vardy also probably deserves his due consideration alongside his current Foxes teammate…
Vardy should have won the PFA Player of the Year. What he achieved this season is much more important than what Mahrez did.

…there was only one worthy winner in the end it seems!
Today's Squawka Suggests is introduced by none other than PFA Player of the Year Riyad Mahrez.
