What a run Liverpool are on. Jurgen Klopp has his men fighting for every game they’re going into, and even the fringe players when given a chance are not letting their manager down. Their recent heroics in the Europa League quarter final against Borussia Dortmund is a sign of what may be in store over the next few years whilst Klopp is at the helm. After going 2-0 down after eight minutes you’d have assumed Liverpool would have been out at that stage, however they did still carve chances out and eventually their luck turned and the second half was another memorable Anfield turnaround which ended in a 4-3 win.

 

What game wold you want when your squad morale is at an all-time high? A derby match of course. And although they’ve in recent years been dominated by draws (six draws in the last seven matches between the two sides) Liverpool are unbeaten against Everton in six years now, which is some run. The fact Klopp rested the vast majority of his side indicates he prioritised this fixture and will have a squad who will have had almost a week to recover from last Thursday’s match.

 

Everton

Roberto Martinez is a man under pressure. The next two fixtures could make or break his tenure at Everton. Had Everton been performing much better this season, he may have been forgiven for resting some players due to a crucial FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United on Saturday. As things have turned out, this game is almost as important now, unrest is beginning to grow in the blue half of Liverpool and there’s serious concerns that Everton could get turned over by a confident Liverpool, the worst kind of preparation you can have for a trip to Wembley.

 

Everton haven’t won a league match since the 1st March against Aston Villa, which looks like meaning Everton are almost resigned to another bottom half finish, two years running now. The only saving grace is that away from home, they are so much better and more resilient than they are at home.

My first Liverpool vs Everton prediction for this match is for Liverpool to win and BTTS. Everton really struggle to keep clean sheets, especially at Anfield. Just one clean sheet in the last 10 years says it all. Liverpool have also conceded in each of their last seven matches, and Everton are still very dangerous on the counter. Liverpool also have goals in them, so a win and BTTS seems the most likely bet.

My second betting tip for Liverpool vs Everton tonight is going to be Nathaniel Clyne to be shown a card. I think Clyne is very suspect defensively, and if I were Martinez I would be instructing Everton’s wingers to run directly at him as he cannot cope with tricky wingers. It may be a culmination of smaller fouls rather than an aggressive lunge, but he isn’t the best timer of tackles, his odds to get a card tonight are excellent.
