Portsmouth to beat AFC Wimbledon

 

Promotion favourites Portsmouth play host to Wimbledon in League Two on Sunday, and will desperate to get back to winning ways after a disappointing run of results in recent weeks. The South Coast side sit third at present; still in the automatic promotion spots, but have however failed to win any of their last three matches thanks to two draws and a defeat at Notts County a fortnight ago.

 

They welcome an inform Wimbledon side to Fratton Park who are have performed much better of the past few weeks; racking up three wins on the bounce prior to this one. They currently sit in mid table and are chasing their third away win on the bounce.

 

Despite the difference in form, if Portsmouth are to have any hopes of returning to League One; it’s game like this that they should be winning, and they know they must improve their patchy home form as soon as possible. Cruzeiro host Sport Recife this weekend with just four rounds of matches remaining in Brazil’s Serie A and both sides still harbouring hopes of Copa Libertadores qualification. The home side had a disappointing start to the season, but have turned it around in recent months and are unbeaten in 10 matches; with five draws and five wins apiece. They still find themselves in mid table, but are only five points off the top five places and will look to continue their climb up the table with fourth home victory out of five.

 

Sport Recife head into the weekend four points and three points ahead of their opponents and will also be hoping to boost their hopes of qualifying for next year’s Libertadores. However, their lofty position is based around their strong home form, with their away record a totally different story. They picked up their only win from 17 away trips a couple of weeks ago, and along with nine draws and seven defeats; it’s no surprise they have one of the worst records in the division accumulating just 12 points. They clearly don’t travel well, and so preference has to be for another home win here.
