Sunderland v Tottenham Betting Tips and Predictions

Sunderland v Spurs predictions and betting tips for the first of today’s Super Sunday matches in the Premier League.

Both Sunderland and Spurs have had shocking starts to the season and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to tell which set of fans are the most distraught. As the two out of form sides go head to head on Sunday, we will have the chance to gauge which team has the most exasperated followers. If either side does lose, it will be a desperate fight for their manager to make it until Christmas without being dismissed.

Sunderland v Tottenham Predictions

Let’s be fair, nobody is all that surprised that Sunderland are bottom of the table after 4 games. Quite frankly, the ‘talent’ at Dick Advocaat’s disposal would do well to place mid table in the Championship.

After the summer signings of Spurs reject Younes Kaboul, as well as Liverpool reject Sebastien Coates, Dick Advocaat has delved even further into the dregs of Merseyside footballing scraps and pulled of a real coup by nabbing legendary Liverpool number 9, Fabio Borini, for a meagre £10m.

As a ragtag band of has-beens and foreign rejects, Sunderland have subjected their loyal fans to some of the most pitifully poor defending, coupled with a lack of effort and desire that, at times, actually beggars belief. At times this season, it literally looks like some of them just cannot wait for the full time whistle to go so they can waltz off to the safety and comfort of their underserving mansions.

The boos have echoed around the Stadium of Light so much this season that they have almost been installed as the club’s traditional half-time theme tune. That is, as long as half the stadium hasn’t upped and left by the mid-point.

If defensive issues continue to plague the Sunderland ‘defence’ against Spurs, Mauricio Pochettino’s team do have some players capable of dishing out some extra pain to the home fans. However, Spurs have barely hit neutral so far. They seem to be firmly stuck in reverse.

After seeing Man United go nuts, and Man City splash the cash, Spurs fans must have sat through the summer transfer window awaiting their turn to delight in the joys and ecstasy of at least one showcase signing to bolster their tepid squad.

Alas, the deadline passed and what did Spurs fans have to cheer about? Toby Alderweireld, an unknown South Korean striker. For a total outlay of £32m. Money well spent? Well, if Spurs’ wheelings and dealings last summer are anything to go by, you can hardly do any worse!

Spurs also added Clinton N’jie, Kieran Trippier and Kevin Wimmer, but I very much doubt that any of these players would even get onto the bench for any top-four side. It seems that Spurs are not learning lessons from their atrocious recruitment policies.

Their pitiful start to the season sums this up perfectly. Lacking any attacking intent, and with a defence shakier than a Rampant Rabbit in an overclocked blender, Spurs have failed to win any of their opening 4 games. With 4 goals conceded and just 3 scored, their performances have not exactly brought tears of joy to the North London faithful.

It’s hard to tell how this match is going to turn out. Spurs were dreadful last time out against Everton, ending up drawing 0-0 in a match that, I’m not ashamed to say, I literally fell asleep watching.

Whereas, Sunderland performed reasonably well in their last outing, gaining a decent 2-2 draw with an enthusiastic and youthful Aston Villa side.

I can see the match turning on the first key incident. Neither side has anything like a shred of confidence, and if either team goes behind, it will be a massive struggle to regain their composure.

I’m going to side with my gut with this one. Given the shoddy defending seen from both sides, I think that the goals will come flowing back.

My first betting tip for Sunderland v Spurs is for both teams to score. Odds of 13/15 can be found with 888sport.

After his confidence boosting goals for England, Harry Kane will be raring to go and eager to get off the mark for Tottenham on Sunday. Sunderland’s defence is probably about on a par with San Marino, so the Hurrikane probably won’t get an easier chance to break his Premier League duck than this.

My second betting tip is for Harry Kane to score first. Odds of 4/1 can be found with Paddy Power.

I actually can’t see either team winning this game. Draws have been the best either side can muster, and I don’t see enough fight from either team to go that extra step and actually win.

Sunderland need to prove to their fans that they have at least a bit of fight left in them. Whereas, Spurs will be hoping to hell that they don’t surrender yet more points to below-average sides. However, unfortunately for Spurs fans, I think their wait for a win may go on a little longer.

My final betting tip for Sunderland v Spurs is for the match to finish as a draw. Odds of 11/4 can be found with Betfred.
