Is Juan Cuadrado already finished at Stamford Bridge?

Let’s face it, fans of the Premier League ultimately couldn’t have been too surprised this summer when news of Juan Cuadrado’s season-long loan move to Juventus eventually broke.

In all honesty, even sections of the Stamford Bridge faithful can’t have been expecting to see much from last season’s marquee winter signing this term, despite the initial hype and sensation that come the Colombian’s way when he was first introduced among the Premier League. Signing some of the sport’s most exciting up-and-coming stars, without offering them any meaningful game time whatsoever, simply remains the Chelsea way it seems…

The creative South American proved one of the standout performers in the 2014 World Cup this time last year, so it seemed only natural that a club of Chelsea’s recent success would be in for his services over the coming season. However, such a seemingly sensible route of action just hasn’t worked out well for the former Fiorentina man so far, making his subsequent move back to Serie A all the more understanding with all things considered.

In light of such an unforeseen turn of events for the player in question then, does this latest development in the summer transfer window simply represent the end for Juan Cuadrado at Stamford Bridge for good now?

Well, although the 27-year-old Colombian may be the most recent high profile star to feel aggrieved about his diminishing role at Stamford Bridge, Juan Cuadrado wasn’t the first to experience such frustration with the Blues, and certainly won’t be the last either…

Jose Mourinho and his somewhat formidable Chelsea side simply have a way of going about their business that doesn’t hold much regard for the club’s substitutes and second tier players. Whilst some may even blame Cuadrado for not impressing his manager at Stamford Bridge enough so far, displacing the likes of Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas or the newly acquired Pedro, remains a task many promising players in the modern game would fail to carry out.

It’s almost as if the Blues ultimately want to create a monopoly over such talented stars – for even if Mourinho can’t yet find a use for his increasing expensive reserves – at least their talents won’t be utilized by any of Chelsea’s rivals when all is said and done. In the cold light of day such a tactic seems to have paid off for the Blues thus far, even if it means the rest of the footballing community in general are arguably being robbed of watching the latest big name star do their thing.

The likes of Andre Schurrle, Kevin de Bruyne and Mohamed Salah have all gone on to display their true value since leaving their obscurity behind at Stamford Bridge, with some of which achieving some seriously impressive levels of performance after swapping the Chelsea colours. In the case of Kevin de Bruyne in particular, the Belgian international has especially done himself proud since joining Wolfsburg, for now the rest of Europe can truly view his talents accordingly.

It therefore wouldn’t come as a great deal of a surprise if Juan Cuadrado eventually became a success at Juventus this term – given enough first team opportunities to shine back in Serie A throughout the upcoming campaign. Alongside fellow new-boy Mario Mandzukic and the rest of Juventus’ star-studded attacking line-up, the 27-year-old creative midfielder has the potential to re-impress his fans in 2015/16 for sure.

So then, whilst Chelsea admittedly don’t have much room for their former no. 23 in their starting XI at the minute, the club still deserve criticism for holding the player back on his course to apparent greatness. Juan Cuadrado simply no longer has much of a future left with the Blues regardless of what happens this season.

It may suit Jose Mourinho to backlog a series of promising players somewhere behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge year after year – but for the rest of us football fans wanting sample all the up and coming stars of the modern era– the results only serve to damage in the cold light of day.
