With just a single point from their two outings so far, and on top of lacklustre performances, it is fair to say that even this early on, a solid win at The Hawthorns is an absolute must for Chelsea.

 

Their 2-2 draw with Swansea was completely out of character for a Chelsea side tipped as overwhelming favourites to win the Premier League before the start of the season. Added to the dismissal of Belgian keeper Thibaut Courtois as well as the furore surround Eva Carneiro and her supposed footballing naivety, it seemed that things couldn’t get much worse for Jose and his players.

 

But a 3-0 defeat to title-rivals Man City soon put pay to that. Not only was Chelsea’s attacking play uninspiring, they lacked effort and fight in the midfield, and, at times, Spanish striker Diego Costa’s notoriously hilarious temper very nearly got the better of him.

 

After the game Mourinho comically insisted that the result was fake. I’m pretty sure he was watching a different game.

 

Playing the way they’ve played this season, I’d be surprised if they take more than a draw away from the Hawthorns against West Brom. However, Chelsea’s eventual revival is inevitable. The question is, will it be against the Baggies?

 

Brom have just a single point to their name after two games this season. A not unexpected 3-0 defeat to Man City was followed by a rather surprising 0-0 draw with Premier League new-boys Watford. It’s safe to say that The Baggies have yet to find their feet this season, but come the end of the campaign, as with all Pulis’ teams, I doubt they’ll find themselves mired in a relegation battle.

 

That being said, The Baggies are yet to score this term, and they will need to count on last season’s top scorer Saido Berahino finding his shooting boots sooner rather than later.

 

Last season the predictions for this game would have been utterly straightforward. The Blues gained a comfortable 2-0 victory over West Brom last November, but, not unsurprisingly, they then fell to a 3-0 defeat in the penultimate game of last season as Mourinho’s men lacked focus and effort in the midst of their title winning celebrations.

 

The match at The Hawthorns on Sunday has a lot riding on it for both teams. Three points would be the first of either’s season, and it is a difficult one to call for my football betting tips this weekend. However, seeing how West Brom were so easily taken apart by a far superior Man City side in their opening match, I feel Chelsea will steal a victory to kick-start their season.
