Premier League Predictions – Man United v Tottenham 8^th August.

 

After an extremely active summer transfer window, Louis Van Gaal has a plethora of expensive talent to choose from for his Man United starting line-up vs Spurs. Angel Di Maria may has gone to PSG, but United have brought in Dutch wonderkid Memphis Depay to fill the Argentine’s boots.

 

The Red Devils have also strengthened in midfield, bringing in Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin to provide competition to an already star-studded squad.

 

Elsewhere, Matteo Darmian has been brought in to fill the gap at right back, which was primarily filled by winger Antonio Valencia last season. Argentine stopper Sergio Romero has also been brought in on a free by Van Gaal to provide a ready-made replacement should Spanish keeper David De Gea finally make his move to Real Madrid.

 

If De Gea does, as expected, make the switch to the Bernabeu, the confidence brought by his world-class abilities would be a key asset to go missing. Furthermore, the 24-year old stopper has been noticeably short of form in pre-season and it will be very interesting to see which keeper gets the nod for their Premier League opener against Spurs.

 

Tottenham have been far less busy in the window compared to United. Their only acquisitions so far have been the additions of Tony Alderweireld, Kevin Wimmer and Kieran Trippier. All are players who may well strengthen an average squad, but they are hardly going to set the North London turf alight.

 

Added to the departures of Paulinho, Benjamin Stambouli, Etienne Capoue, Younes Kaboul, and a whole host of other fringe players, the Spurs squad is looking a tad light going into the new campaign.

 

Pochettino has also presided over a rather odd pre-season for his Spurs side. And it remains to be seen whether this lack of preparation will come back to haunt Pochettino’s side, but I feel their lack of match sharpness will be a key element to the game against Man United for my football betting tips on the match.

 

Manchester United v Tottenham Result Prediction:

 

United won all but one of their pre-season friendlies, including an impressive 3-1 victory over the reigning European Champions Barcelona. Van Gaal’s side look raring and ready to go, and despite concerns about the possible departure and form of David De Gea, I feel that United will start the season as they mean to go on and record a comfortable win over an off the pace Spurs side.

Wayne Rooney will be the main man for United up front this season. Provided he stays injury free, he should be the man to lead the line in the United starting XI. After stints in various midfield positions last season, the England captain’s goal-tally suffered, but I can see him pushing his stats to a whole new level this campaign.

 

With only Javier Hernandez and youngster James Wilson as the only obvious replacements. Rooney already has 230 to his name, and as the main Man United striker, he will be expected to notch at least 20 this term.

It’s a difficult task to try and judge how Spurs will start the season given their lack of outings in pre-season. However, rather than be invigorated by the rest, I feel all of their players will be a tad short of match sharpness, and as such, I don’t see them putting up much of a fight against a United side who look to be gathering heavy momentum.
