Opponents this weekend HJK Helsinki should offer stiffer competition than Liverpool have been used to so far this preseason. The Finnish side are currently top of their domestic league at present and are also in the middle of an evenly poised Champions League qualifying tie against Astana. With the scores at 0-0, HJK face a crucial away tie next week, so I wouldn't expect them to go too gung-ho against their Premier League opposition.

 

Odds for the match have Liverpool as clear favourites at 1/4. HJK can be backed at 12/1, with the draw available at 11/2.

 

Although Liverpool should win this match on paper – and win it well – their unremarkable results so far in preseason offer as a huge deterrent for anyone looking to back them outright at such short odds. The Reds were trading around the 1/12 mark against a Malaysia XI last week and ended up drawing the match 1-1. This certainly highlights the risk.

 

Nevertheless, at a reasonable price of 9/5 with Betfair, back Liverpool to win and BTTS which is our first football prediction for Helsinki v Liverpool. Brendon Rodgers' men have already conceded goals to weaker opposition so far in preseason, and with Dejan Lovren set to run amok for at least a half, could well leak a few more this weekend.
