Wolfsburg v Bayern Munich Betting Tips and Predictions

Weekend football predictions for Wolfsburg v Bayern Munich in the German DFL Super Cup on Saturday with our free football tips.

Pep Guardiola’s title winning Bayern Munich side kick off the new season in the German DFL  Super Cup against last season’s DFB-Pokal winners, VfB Wolfsburg. Munich are looking to lift their fifth Super Cup title and, in the process, avenge the 4-1 hammering they suffered last season in the League at the hands of Dieter Hecking’s free scoring Wolfsburg side. We have the predictions and three of the best football betting tips for Saturday's German DFL Super Cup showdown.

Football Predictions – Wolfsburg v Bayern Munich

Wolfsburg have home advantage for the clash as they look to emulate their amazing 4-1 upset of Guardiola’s men last campaign. However, this victory was Die Wolfe’s only triumph over Bayern in ten attempts, and you can expect Guardiola’s men to be more than aware of the threat that Wolfsburg’s talented attacking players pose this time around.

Having staved off interest in Bundesliga player of the year Kevin De Bruyne from the likes of Man City and Real Madrid, as well as maintaining the services of Dutch striker Bas Dos and former Chelsea winger Andre Schurrle, Dieter Hecking has a squad capable of repeating their fantastic campaign last time out.

Wolfsburg have also added German striker Max Kruse to their ranks, Wolfsburg have a wealth of attacking riches to choose from. Some would go as far as to say that even Lord Bendtner himself may have to settle for a place in the bench occasionally. All joking aside, with just one Bundesliga goal to his name last season, Bendtner’s place is seriously under threat from Kruse, having notched 11 league goals for Monchengladbach in 2014/15.

Munich may have let club icon Bastian Schweinsteiger leave to join up with Louis Van Gaal in Manchester, but in Chilean dynamo Arturo Vidal, they have acquired a world class replacement. Guardiola has also brought in Brazilian midfielder Douglas Costa from Shakhtar Donetsk to provide competition to the ageing legs of Robben and Ribery who both suffered with recurrent injuries throughout much of the last campaign.

Munich have had a particularly inconsistent pre-season, thanks in no small part to Pep Guardiola chopping and changing his formation on numerous occasions. Their last match was a bore draw against Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande, with Munich managing to somehow lose on penalties to a team lacking in any real quality.

Guardiola has been toying with a formation that includes just one natural centre back in a three man backline, and so far at least it seems that this experiment has yet to provide consistent success. It remains to be seen what setup Guardiola opts for against a much stronger Wolfsburg side in the German DFL Super cup, but I am not expecting another Wolfsburg whitewash in this clash for my football betting tips this weekend.

However, the side’s last three meetings have provided 15 goals between them, and I am expecting another high quality, free scoring encounter at the Volkswagen Arena on Saturday. With Bayern’s players having not yet settled into any kind of pre-season rhythm due to the fluctuating tactics being employed by the manager, I see Wolfsburg being able to score in this one.

You can never write off Bayern from scoring either, and just one glance at the attacking talent they possess tells you that, should they need a goal, they should have enough firepower to get one. Both sides like to play open and expansive, primarily attacking football, and as such I reckon both teams will score.

My first football betting tip for VfB Wolfsburg v Bayern Munich is for both teams to put it in the onion bag. The best odds are with Ladbrokes at 8/13, and they may be rather short, but I think it's a relatively safe bet.

Wolfsburg have also had a pretty inconsistent off season, losing their last two to Arsenal and Villarreal in the Emirates Cup. I think that despite having home advantage, Wolfsburg will struggle against a Munich side who invariably turn on the style when the chips are down.

My second Wolfsburg v Bayern Munich prediction is for Bayern Munich to win in 90 minutes. The best odds around are 9/10 with 888Sport.

In terms of correct score betting, we have already established that when the teams meet, it usually means goals. I can see both sides scoring, but I feel Munich will edge it in the second half. My overriding gut feeling is that this game will finish either 2-1 or 3-1 to Munich.

Odds for a 2-1 Bayern win are 8/1 with Bet Victor, whereas odds for a 3-1 victory are 14/1, also with Bet Victor. I do feel that Bayern will have that extra bit of desire they need to nick the third and make the game safe.

I'm going to stick my neck out and predict a 3-1 Bayern Munich win as my final football prediction for the DFL Super Cup Final between VfL Wolfsburg and Bayern Munich.
