Premier League Predictions for Sunderland this Season

The latest in our series of Premier League predictions ahead of the 2015/16 season focuses on a team who battled with relegation all of last season – Sunderland.

Our football tipster has picked out two football betting tips for Sunderland ahead of the new season. Will they steer clear of the relegation zone this time around?

Premier League Predictions – Sunderland.

Despite finishing in 16th place and three points above the relegation zone, last season could be viewed as somewhat of a success from Sunderland's point of view. The Black Cats looked dead and buried at the end of March and were in huge danger of dropping down a division to the Championship. However, the Sunderland board rolled the dice and replaced Gus Poyet with Dick Advocaat, and this move certainly paid dividends. The Dutchman picked up an impressive 12 points from his last eight games, as well as guiding his team to the double over North East rivals Newcastle United.

Heading into the 2015/16 season and Sunderland have been reasonably quiet in the transfer market having only completed the two signings so far with the acquisitions of Seb Coates and Adam Matthews. However, they have also secured the services of manager Dick Advocaat for another season. Much to the chagrin of his wife, the former Rangers man did a U-turn over his retirement and his presence will certainly install some much needed stability in the Sunderland hierarchy. Advocaat has already stated he wants at least three or four more 'quality' signings before the start of the season, and this will prove crucial to their chances next season.

Premier League Prediction 1 – Sunderland to be relegated – 5/2 Bet Victor.

As it stands, I think Sunderland will be in huge danger of relegation next season. Despite their fine finish to the 2014/15 campaign, the Black Cats were second bottom of the tables for their home record and also goals scored. This will have to change if they are to have any chance of matching, or even improving on last year's performance. For me, everything hinges on the potential signings they can make before the deadline closes. At the moment, though, there has simply not been enough of an improvement to a squad that really struggled last term.

Premier League Prediction 2 – Dick Advocaat to be the first manager to leave his post – 10/1 Ladbrokes.

It's safe to say Dick Advocaat will have probably spent a few nights in the dog house following his change of heart over retirement. Although a thousand pounds worth of flowers from the Sunderland faithful appears to have cushioned the blow with the Dutchman's long-suffering wife, I can't imagine Advocaat's too far off throwing in the towel with his management career. Although he may face stiff competition from Brendon Rodgers – who somehow avoided the sack with the likes of Ancelotti, Klopp and Rafa Benitez on the market – Advocaat is really well-priced with Ladbrokes at 10/1 to be the first manager to leave his post this coming season.
