Fantasy Football Guide and Predictions for this Weekend – April 3rd 2015

Welcome to another week of my fantasy football guide. We’re back into Premier League mode following the International break and we have a fantastic weekend of football to look forward to. We will review last week’s team and see if any if my players deserve to stay in and who gets booted out!

Last Weeks’ Team:

Thibaut Courtois – 1 point

John Terry – 1 point, Branislav Ivanovic – 1 point, Nathaniel Clyne – 6 points, Jose Fonte – 6 points

Jordan Henderson – 2 points, Coutinho – 2 points, Eden Hazard – 10 points, Mesut Özil – 5 points

Harry Kane – 17 points, Daniel Sturridge – 7 points

Total – 58 points

Verdict – Top Half Performance – If only Chelsea had not let in those stupid goals at Hull, we would have been rolling in the points!

Fantasy Football team for next week:

Goalkeeper

  1. David De Gea

Next fixture: Aston Villa (H)

Previous match: vs. Liverpool – Won 2-1

The Spanish stopper has been in magnificent form all season and would have scored a load more points had United’s defenders not been so calamitous. Their form has picked up against the bigger teams and I feel that the confidence-building wins over Spurs and Liverpool will set them in good stead for the visit of Villa. If Arsenal lose to Liverpool in the early kick off, this means United could move third with a win over Tim Sherwood’s men. I feel that despite Villa’s resurgence in form, the game at Old Trafford will be a damage limitation exercise for them. De Gea to keep a clean sheet.

Defenders

  1. John Terry – Chelsea

Next fixture: Stoke (H)

Previous match: vs. Hull – Won 3-2

Chelsea conceded some calamitous goals against Hull and this is the reason I have not stuck with Courtois in goal. However, John Terry could not be blamed for either goal against the Tigers. I believe that Mourinho will have laid in his defence for these goals and John Terry will be eager to keep a clean sheet against Stoke. The title is edging ever closer to the Blue’s grasp and a win over Stoke will get them one step nearer. Chelsea’s home form is magnificent and I cannot see Stoke scoring in this game.

  1. Branislav Ivanovic – Chelsea

Next fixture: Hull (A)

Previous match: vs. Southampton – Drew 1-1

Ivanovic’s backpass put Courtois under pressure, but the Belgian should have just hoofed the ball away. Ivanovic could not really be blamed for this and so I have kept him in the team due to their home match against Stoke.  The Serbian has been very consistent this season and is sure to pick up more points in his next match.

  1. Nathaniel Clyne – Southampton

Next fixture: Everton (A)

Previous match: vs. Burnley – Won 2-0

Clyne had yet another solid game for the Saints against Everton. His shot was deflected by Shane Long into the net for the opener and as such Clyne was credited with the assist. The match against Everton will be a close fought one, but with both teams having tightened up defensively in recent weeks, a clean sheet for Clyne may be on the cards again.

  1. Daley Blind

Next fixture: Aston Villa

Previous match: vs. Liverpool – Won 2-1

Blind has been Mr Consistent for United so far this season. He is a defender on most fantasy football sites, but he often plays in midfield and has chipped in with his fair share of important goals. He is very much in form and his fantasy points tally over the past 6 weeks has been magnificent. I have overlooked United’s defenders for too long now and finally I am giving one of them a chance.

Midfielders

  1. Juan Mata

Next fixture: Aston Villa (H)

Previous match: vs. Liverpool – Won 2-1

Scored two fabulous goals against arch rivals Liverpool to seal a famous win for the Red Devils. He surely cannot be left out of the team to face Villa and therefore I have picked him for the upcoming weekend. With the form they showed against the Merseysiders, I can see United notching a hatful of goals in this one and hopefully Juan can add to his tally.

7. Santi Cazorla – Arsenal

Next fixture: Liverpool (H)

Previous match: vs. Newcastle – Won – 2-1

Cazorla has been instrumental in Arsenal’s fine form of late and they have notched 6 wins on the trot. The Spaniard regularly chips in with key contributions and assists, as well as a few goals to boot. Arsenal face Liverpool in their next match and it will obviously be a tough test for them, but with Arsenal’s form of late and the fact that Liverpool lost to their bitter rivals Man United in their previous match, I can see Arsenal taking away the points in this one. Cazorla will surely be instrumental in everything good that Arsenal produce.

8. Eden Hazard – Chelsea

Next fixture: Stoke (H)

Previous match: vs. Hull – Won 3-2

Hazard scored within 2 minutes against Hull and showed throughout the match why he is so highly rated. He is a constant thorn in defender’s sides and as such he must be kept in the team for the match against Stoke.

  1. Christian Eriksen – Spurs

Next fixture: vs. Burnley (A)

Previous match: vs. Leicester – Won 4-3

With Harry Kane ahead of him, Eriksen is always likely to provide an assist. The Dane almost got on the score sheet against Leicester but one shot hit the post, and Schlupp managed to divert another Eriksen shot into the net for Spurs’ fourth goal. Spurs are always likely to concede goals, but with Kane and Eriksen in the line up, scoring goals is never likely to be a problem for them. I can see Tottenham winning this match and Eriksen to provide a few more for the Hurrikane.

Forwards

  1. Harry Kane – Tottenham

Next fixture: Burnley (A)

Previous match: vs. Leicester – Won 4-3

A hat trick against Leicester in his previous match for Spurs, followed by a debut goal for England. It’s been a dream week for the youngster and I could hardly leave him out of the team with a match against Burnley up next!

  1. Wayne Rooney – Man United

Next fixture: Aston Villa (H)

Previous match: vs. Liverpool – Won 2-1

Rooney is finally being played as a striker and United are reaping the rewards. His points tally has rocketed in recent weeks and I am expecting him to be on the score sheet again versus Villa. He is getting ever closer to breaking goalscoring records for club and country, and therefore he is a must for any fantasy team at the moment.
