Manchester United, also come into Sunday's clash in decent form. It's been no secret that Louis van Gaal's men have not been at their best this season, but United produced their finest performance of the season last weekend against Tottenham, in a match that many expected them to struggle in. Marouane Fellaini had a superb game and was a constant menace in the United attack behind Wayne Rooney who also continued his purple patch in front of goal.
The crucial thing for LVG in Liverpool v Man United this weekend will be to avoid defeat. United currently hold a two point advantage over their Merseyside rivals, and with Liverpool facing The Gunners next and Aston Villa visiting Old Trafford, there's every chance they could have a sizeable cushion for comfort in the next couple of weeks. However, this is easier said than done. One good win does not make a season and this is the worst possible time to be playing a dangerous Liverpool side.
If this match had been last week, I would have thrown the kitchen sink at a home win for my Liverpool v Man United prediction. United were awful against Arsenal in the FA Cup and deserved to lose more than the 2-1 scoreline inflicted. However, their excellent display against Spurs has certainly set the cat amongst the pigeons. Nevertheless, they are playing the most in-form side in the league and it is impossible to ignore that fact.
Therefore, bet on Liverpool to win outright at a decent price of 6/5 with William Hill.
Heading over to the goalscoring market in Liverpool v Man United, and Ladbrokes are running an interesting promotion this weekend where they will refund losing first goalscorer bets if the match finished with both teams scoring.
