Fantasy Football Tips and Advice: Feburary 7th Ins and Outs

Welcome to our new fantasy football feature. This section is your weekly guide on who to bring in and who to ship out of your fantasy football team.

With this guide I will look at the fixture list and the form guide to give you an in depth analysis of the players that are coming into form and those coming back from injury or suspension. I will also give you up to date news on who to discard due to upcoming suspensions or injuries.

Goalkeepers

1.  Thibaut Courtois – Chelsea

Next 3 fixtures: Aston Villa (A), Everton (H), PSG (A)

Barring the PSG fixture, Courtois will be odds on to keep a clean sheet against Villa and Everton. Villa have not scored in their past 5 Premier League games and I highly doubt they will notch against the lanky Belgian between Chelsea’s sticks.  Although Everton’s form has picked up slightly lately, they are still very short of goal scoring confidence in their team.

2.  Joe Hart – Man City

     Next 3 fixtures: Hull (H), Stoke (A), Newcastle (H)

Looking at City’s fixture list, they should be taking 9 points from 9 and keeping a few clean sheets along the way.  Joe Hart has been consistent throughout the season, but Pellegrini has a habit of rotating his goalkeepers, despite number 2 City keeper Willy Caballero not exactly impressing in the few games he has appeared in.

3.  David Ospina –Arsenal

     Next 3 fixtures: Spurs (A), Leicester (H), Middlesbrough (H)

After Szczęsny’s smoking faux pas in the showers, Wenger has handed his number 1 spot to the Colombian keeper. With 4 clean sheets in 4 games, his stats are fantastic. If he can hold down his starting place for Arsenal, he will be a very good pick for any fantasy team. However, Arsenal’s next fixture away to a Spurs side on form and gunning for Gunner’s blood will surely be the time where Ospina concedes his first in an Arsenal shirt.

Defenders

1.  Kurt ZoumaChelsea

Next 3 fixtures: Aston Villa (A), Everton (H), PSG (A)

A cheap pick on most fantasy football sites. The young Frenchman Zouma impressed Mourinho with his performance against Liverpool in the League Cup and he seems to have edged out Gary Cahill in the pecking order as John Terry’s centre back partner. If he can keep his form together, Zouma will be a fantastic and cost effective pick for any fantasy team!

2.  Nathaniel Clyne – Southampton

      Next 3 fixtures:  Arsenal (H), Liverpool (A), Fiorentina (H)

I expect the majority of you will already have picked him in your team, but nonetheless, his consistent performances for the Saints have put him right among the points in fantasy football. If you haven’t got him, get him.

3.  Aaron Cresswell – West Ham

Next 3 fixtures: Man United (H), Southampton (A), West Brom (A)

A very consistent and cost effective defender in the fantasy football rankings. Although West Ham’s next match is against Man United, I don’t envisage a particularly high scoring game. Cresswell is an almost ever-present in the West Ham team and rarely lets them down.

Midfielders

1.Christian EriksenTottenham

Next 3 fixtures:  Arsenal (H), Liverpool (A), Fiorentina (H)

Bang in form for a Spurs side that have finally found their goalscoring touch under Pochettino. Eriksen is Spurs’ free kick specialist and has notched a couple from set pieces in the past week alone. He is a constant in the Spurs side and with Harry Kane also bang in form, Eriksen has a lethal finisher to put away his assists.

2.   Coutinho – Liverpool

       Next 3 fixtures: Bolton (A), Everton (A), Tottenham (H)

With Daniel Sturridge back from injury, Coutinho will be the man to provide him with assists. Now that Liverpool finally have someone capable of finishing off the chances created by the tricky Brazilian, I expect Coutinho’s points tally to soar in the coming weeks.

3.    Eden Hazard – Chelsea

Next 3 fixtures: Aston Villa (A), Everton (H), PSG (A)

If you haven’t already got him in your team, Hazard would be a fantastic choice. He is however reasonably expensive, but, given Chelsea’s upcoming fixtures against weaker opposition, he should be worth it. The diminutive Belgian will be looking to improve on an impressive campaign and notch a lot more points for his fantasy football tally.

Attackers

1.Harry KaneTottenham

Next 3 fixtures:  Arsenal (H), Liverpool (A), Fiorentina (H)

Compared to the top rated strikers on fantasy football, Harry Kane is an absolute steal. He has reached 20 goals for the season already and his form shows no sign of abating just yet. The next 3 fixtures for Spurs look tricky but Harry has the chance to impress against top quality opposition and prove that he deserves a place in the England squad.

2.Daniel Sturridge – Liverpool

Next 3 fixtures: Bolton (A), Everton (A), Tottenham (H)

Back from injury and notches a goal after just 12 minutes of his return. Say no more! Getting Danny boy back into your team is a must!

3.Sergio Aguero – Man City

       Next 3 fixtures: Hull (H), Stoke (A), Newcastle (H)

The tricky Argentine is back from injury and building up his match fitness. He was not yet back to his best against Chelsea but the signs are looking good. In Man City’s next 3 fixtures against Hull, Stoke and Newcastle, Sergio will surely get back to scoring ways.

Players to discard

Ryan Bertrand – Southampton

Suspended for 3 matches after his straight red card against Swansea. Get him back in your team as soon as his suspension has been served as Bertrand is one of the top rated defenders in most fantasy leagues.

Mario Balotelli – Liverpool

I doubt any sane person is silly enough to even have Balotelli anywhere near their team any more; so, if you have been living under a rock for the entire season and haven’t seen his utterly pitiful performances, get rid and never ever contemplate bringing him back in. Furthermore, Sturridge is back and I doubt Mario will even make the bench nowadays.

Alexis Sanchez – Arsenal

A major doubt for the Spurs clash with a hamstring injury. Keep an eye on this situation though because Wenger is being very coy about his fitness. Expect Sanchez to be included in the match day squad even if he is not fully fit.

Bojan – Stoke

Such a shame for Bojan that injury is likely to rule him out for the rest of the season. He was starting to show why he was such a highly rated youngster with some impressive performances for Stoke. May well be a good pick for next year.

Gary Cahill – Chelsea

Although he is one of the top points scoring defenders, the emergence of Kurt Zouma is threatening to keep him out the team. We will keep an eye on this situation in the coming weeks.

Ryan Shawcross – Stoke

Injured with a back problem, no expect return date as yet.

Any Man United Defender

At the beginning of the season I expected a new dawn for United. With such attacking talent brought in, I envisaged a free scoring United team that would be just as good at the back, like Van Gaal’s previous teams. How wrong I was. Phil Jones and Luke Shaw were terrible picks and I only have myself to blame. I doubt any of you will have a United defender left in your team after their season to date! Injuries coupled with formation changes and terribly jittery defending have resulted in a poor return from any single United defender. To put this into perspective, Tom Cleverly has amassed as many points, if not more, than any United defender. Yes, Tom Cleverly.
