Sunday’s Accumulator Tips
Liverpool and Arsenal to draw – 23/10
In what is arguably the pick of this weekend’s Premier League fixtures; Arsenal travel to Anfield to face a Liverpool side in desperate need of a positive result given their struggles in recent weeks. A game that has a history of producing goals, we could be in for a treat, in a match where both teams will fancy their chances. Despite their crushing 3-0 defeat to rivals Manchester United last weekend, Liverpool could count themselves slightly unfortunate not to come away with anything after creating a host of good chances.
Arsenal meanwhile, find themselves sixth, just two points off the coveted fourth spot, a position they have made their own in recent seasons. They enjoyed a comfortable 4-1 victory over Newcastle last time out, however endured a disappointing defeat to Stoke in their last away game, going down 3-2. An important game for both teams and their Champions League hopes, both will be desperate to win, although they may feel it more important to avoid defeat. Given the fact it seems like a tough one to call, a draw appears to be a real possibility. Liverpool have already drawn three at home this season, where they have picked up 12 points. Arsenal meanwhile, have just a point less on their travels, having won three and drawn two.
Fiorentina to beat Empoli – 11/20
Fiorentina have hit form in recent weeks, and are unbeaten in their last four; where they have picked up three wins. Last weekend they thumped Cesena 4-1, prior to which they recorded a very credible goalless draw with champions Juventus in their last home game. Given the fact they sit eighth in Serie A; just three points off Lazio who occupy the third Champions League spot, it’s somewhat surprising they have only managed nine points at home so far this season.
Down in 14th place, Empoli sit just four points from the bottom three, having drawn their last three games, and appear to be involved in a relegation battle. Given the way their opponents have started firing of late, a trip to Fiorentina is unlikely to reap much reward for Empoli, and therefore the home side are fancied to get the victory and continue their push for a European spot.
Villarreal to beat Deportivo La Coruna – 4/11
Villarreal are one of the form teams in La Liga; unbeaten in their last five with four straight wins. Having thrashed Real Sociedad in their last home game, they then shocked reigning champions Atletico Madrid by beating them 1-0 at the Vicente Caulderon last weekend. Sitting sixth in the table, they are just three points off the Champions League places, and are expected to enhance their European prospects by defeating relegation-threatened Deportivo. The visitors travel to Villarreal just three points off the bottom, and two outside the relegation zone, thanks to a slender victory over Elche last time out. They have managed just five points on their travels this season, scoring just four goals in seven away games. Given their struggles so far this season, coupled with Villarreal’s impressive form of late, the home side are the selection to take the three points.
Marseille to beat Lille – 8/11
Despite a narrow 1-0 defeat to Monaco last weekend, Marseille still find themselves as the leaders of Ligue 1, with a point advantage over French powerhouse PSG. Credentials they will be looking to maintain when they welcome Lille this weekend. Marseille’s home form has been particularly impressive so far this season, with eight wins and just one defeat. Lille meanwhile, have really struggled on the road this season, with the third worst away record in the division, having managed only one victory and three goals from eight games. Thankfully for Lille, their home form has been somewhat better, ensuring they find themselves mid-table at present, although just four points ahead of the bottom three. Given the contrasting seasons the two clubs are having, it’s hard to make a case for Lille to pick anything up from this week’s encounter, and therefore Marseille are the selection to take the points, as the league leaders look to keep up their impressive home record.
