Villarreal to beat Apollon Limassol – 1/4

Spanish outfit Villarreal travel to Apollon during the final round of group games in the Europa League, looking to secure a qualification spot for the knockout phase. Sitting in second place, just a point behind Borussia Moenchengladbach, they are also only a single point ahead of Zurich in third, which leaves their status in this competition far from safe. Up against Group A’s bottom side, Villarreal know a win will see them through, a result that could even see them top the group depending on the outcome of the other match. With their opponents having picked up just one win from their five group games, alongside four defeats, they have nothing more than pride to play for, leaving the Spaniards favourites to take all three points. Off the back of an impressive 4-0 victory over Real Sociedad in La Liga at the weekend, Villarreal’s quality should come through again this time around, and with qualification in their own hands, they are the selection to win the game.

 

AaB Aalborg to beat Rio Ave – 13/8

Danish side Aalborg are another team who find themselves in second place in their group, but may well need a positive result to ensure progress to the next round. Two points ahead of Steaua Bucharest, and three behind Group J leaders Dynamo Kiev, they can still end up in any of these three positions depending on results, and so will be looking to pinch all three points when they travel to Rio Ave. The Portuguese side, have only picked up one point so far, and already out of the competition, shouldn’t pose too much of a threat to Aalborg, who came out on top in their previous encounter. Having already managed three wins in Group J, and with all to play for in terms of qualification, an Aalborg victory is the selection.

 

Sevilla to beat Rijeka – 3/10

To Group G this time, and once again it’s another side in second place that could find themselves ending the evening as group winners or missing out on qualification altogether. Going well in La Liga, Spanish side Sevilla face Rijeka on Thursday, and will be looking to book their place in the knockout phase at the expense of their Croatian opponents, who know a win for themselves will clinch second spot. The sides drew two apiece in their previous encounter, and this is another that could provide goals in what promises to be attacking, open game. There’s no doubting Sevilla are the better side on paper, and with home advantage, should be able to show there superior class, and ensure their passage through to the knockout phase

 

Dnipro and St Etienne to draw – 21/10

The last selection comes from Group F, where St Etienne astonishingly could make it a clean sweep of draws in the competition. The French side find themselves in third place after drawing all five fixtures so far, with three 0-0’s and just two goals. They do however sit level on points with Karabagh in second, and a point ahead of their latest opponents Dnipro, with all three sides vying for the second qualification spot with Inter the runaway leaders of the group. An Inter victory away at Karabagh would really open the door for one of these two sides to make it through to the next phase, and another point for St Etienne may well be enough come the final whistle. As the home side, and in need of the win to have any chance of progressing, Dnipro will no doubt be looking to attack, which could lead to an open game and chances for both sides. With this in mind, a draw is certainly not out of the question, and given St Etienne’s record of them in Group F, it would be no surprise to see both teams cancel each other out once again.
