We’ve got a first goalscorer double betting tip for the Euro 2016 semi-final matches of Wales vs Portugal and France vs Germany.
With only two games to go before the final in Paris on Sunday, we’re looking to go out of the tournament in style and have come up with a couple of first goalscorer bets for the remaining semi-finals. Since there is the added incentive of the ‘DD/HH’ promotion with Betfred, we’re going to throw a bit of caution to the wind and back our two selections as two singles and a whopping 76/1 double with that particular bookmaker.
Portugal v Wales First Scorer Tip
Portugal’s run to the semi-finals has been particularly uninspiring, especially from a betting perspective. Cristiano Ronaldo and co scrapped through the easiest group in the tournament in third place, and have still yet to win a match in 90 minutes so far at Euro 16. Despite of this, it’s quite remarkable that they can still find themselves two matches from potential glory.
In stark contrast, Wales are looking more dangerous and confident every time they play and have now won four of their five matches at the competition. Their most recent victory over Belgium in the quarter-finals only proves that they are able to compete with the very best at the competition, and of course they have one of the world’s best players in Gareth Bale at their disposal as well.

From a first goalscorer perspective, Wales have notched the opening goal of the game in four of their five matches so far at the tournament. Portugal are a long way off that and have only scored first in two of their five clashes, and even one of these was the 117th minute smash and grab against Croatia in the round of 16.
Browsing the players, and obviously Cristiano Ronaldo is the standout choice in the market at 3/1. However, the Real Madrid man has been strangely out of sorts so far this tournament and doesn’t look particularly good value at that price. Ronaldo currently leads the way for shots at Euro 2016 with 36, yet he has only scored twice and also missed a penalty. Gareth Bale is currently second in the charts for most shots, but his ratio of three goals from 21 attempts looks much more encouraging and the Welshman is available at far kinder odds of 9/2.

Nevertheless, the player I believe to be best value for money is Hal Robson-Kanu. The Wales number nine has already notched twice at the tournament and will surely be full of confidence after making a mockery of three Belgian defenders for his superb goal in the previous round. He might not be the most glamourous name at Euro 2016, but based on Wales’ far superior record for scoring the opening goal of the game, back Robson-Kanu at 10/1.
Robson-Kanu to score first – 10/1 with Betfred (20/1 if he scores again, 30/1 if he gets a hat-trick).
France v Germany First Scorer Tip
The hosts might have started the tournament fairly unremarkably, but their 5-2 thrashing of Iceland in the quarter-finals will have certainly made the remaining teams sit up and take note. Manager Didier Deschamps hasn’t been afraid to tinker with his side so far, but it appears he has finally found a winning formula at Euro 2016 with the likes of Antoine Griezmann, Olivier Giroud and Dimitri Payet all well-placed for the race for the Golden Boot.

Opponents Germany haven’t been at their best this tournament but find themselves in the semi-finals after seeing off an unfortunate Italian side on penalties in the last round. However, despite only notching seven goals so far at Euro 16, the Germans have conceded just the once so far in the competition and look a particularly tough nut to crack at the back.
Once again from an opening goal’s perspective, there is little to choose between the two sides as Germany have notched first in four of their five games and France just the three. Nevertheless, the Germans do head into the match with a selection headache with Mats Hummels suspended and leading scorer Mario Gomez ruled out for the tournament through injury. To compound matters, Joachim Lowe also has injury doubts surrounding Jerome Boateng, Sami Khedira and Bastian Schweinsteiger as well. The world cup holders could be down to the bare bones on Thursday night.
Looking at the usual suspects in the first goalscorer market, and although you can never write off the Germans, talisman Thomas Muller is struggling for form and looks woefully short on confidence. The Bayern Munich man has yet to score so far at Euro 2016 and has also relinquished penalty kick duties as well. For the French, it has to be one from the trio of Payet, Giroud and Griezmann. The Premier League duo are currently on three goals apiece for the tournament, with the Atletico Madrid man leading the race for the Golden Boot on four.
With these facts in mind, I’m edging toward Antoine Griezmann for my football betting tip on the second Euro 2016 semi-final. Although France’s number seven started the tournament slowly, he has really flourished since being pushed in from the wing and playing off Olivier Giroud. Griezmann also has an excellent chance conversion rate in comparison to that of many of the other strikers at the tournament as well. Of his 16 shots so far, he has seen 8 on target, 5 blocked, only two off target and one off the woodwork. Considering he is currently leading scorer at Euro 16 with four goals, this is an excellent return from those statistics. Therefore, back Antoine Griezmann to score the opening goal of the match at 6/1 with Betfred.
Antoine Griezmann to score first – 6/1 with Betfred (12/1 if he scores again, 18/1 if he gets a hat-trick).
Bet on a first goalscorer tip with Betfred and if your player scores first and then again, you get double the odds. If he gets a hat-trick you get paid at treble the original odds e.g. Giroud first goalscorer backers were paid at 9/1 against Iceland because he scored first then got a second.
